
The following press release has been issued by Clay County Sheriff's Office. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
An ongoing investigation by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and DEA Drug Diversion Task Force has led law enforcement to Hayesville Family Practice in Clay County, North Carolina. Hayesville Family Practice is owned and operated by Union General Hospital in Union County, Georgia.
On April 20th, 2016, multiple agents of the NC SBI and DEA Drug Diversion Task Force, along with Clay and Cherokee County Sheriff's Office investigators, executed a search warrant. Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Keith Plott, was named in the search warrant and as a result, he was interviewed on scene at the time the search warrant was executed.
According to the search warrant affidavit, the investigation stems from concerns over prescription medications. Numerous patient records, along with other files and records identified as being potential evidence, were seized.
The District Attorney’s Office will be reviewing the findings of the search warrant and will make a determination as to possible charges. Updates will be released as new information becomes available.
