Colonial Pipeline Company's main gasoline line, a crucial supply source for the U.S. East Coast, will be shut down for at least several days and Colonial has indicated it is hard to predict repair schedule, so temporary shortages could occur. The fire has been contained and line 1 (gasoline) could be operational by Saturday. Line 2 (diesel and jet fuel) has already restarted.
Cherokee County Government, NC has a plan to provide our citizens with Emergency Services during pipeline shutdown. We are asking citizens to consider conservation until the pipeline is repaired. Conservation efforts such as carpooling, combining errands into one trip, and avoiding non-essential travel will go a long way in avoiding a shortage. Motorists should also stick to normal fuel consumer habits versus topping off their tanks at every opportunity. Transporting fuel in unapproved containers is dangerous and is discouraged.
