The following press release has been issued by Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Murphy, NC— Sheriff Derrick Palmer announced the October 09th, 2018 arrest of a Timothy Wayne Barnes, a 34 year man who provided a Burgaw North Carolina address for Trafficking in Methamphetamine and stealing and possession of a motor vehicle.
On October 09th, 2018 Cherokee County Emergency Communications received a call that a female had just had her car stolen. Deputies with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and officers with the Murphy Police Department worked cooperatively to identify Timothy Barnes as the individual who had stolen the car. As the officers worked together they were able to ascertain a possible location of the car and Barnes. Upon arriving at the Martins Creek location the officers were able to retrieve the car and Barnes. Upon checking for wants and warrants information was found that Barnes had an Indictment from the April Cherokee County Grand Jury for Trafficking in Methamphetamine. Additionally during a search incident to arrest Barnes was found to have a quantity of suspected Methamphetamine on his person.
Timothy Wayne Barnes was arrested and taken to the Cherokee County Detention Center where he was incarcerated for LARCENY OF MOTOR VEHICLE, POSSESS STOLEN AUTOMOBILE, POSSESS METHAMPHETAMINE, POSSESS DRUG PARAPHERNALIA, TRAFFIC IN METHAMPHETAMINE. Barnes is currently under a $60,000.00 secure bond and has a October 25, 2018 court date.
