Murphy trio arrested for drugs

The following press release has been issued by Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.  All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Murphy, NC— Sheriff Derrick Palmer announced the April 17th, 2016 arrest of 38-year-old Charles V Shannon, of Marble, North Carolina, 42-year-old Eric Scott Turner, and 43-year-old Kevin Thomas Coleman, both of Murphy, North Carolina for the illegal possession of controlled substances.

Shortly after midnight on April 17th, 2016, a Cherokee County deputy observed a vehicle on Old Ranger Road in Murphy, North Carolina. The deputy observed a traffic violation and made a traffic stop of the vehicle in which the occupants were identified as Shannon, Turner and Coleman.

During the traffic stop, a wants and warrant check revealed that Shannon had warrants for his arrest. During a search of the vehicle incident to arrest a substantial amount of methamphetamine was found in the vehicle. Shannon, Turner and Coleman were arrested and taken to the Cherokee County Detention Center.

Shannon was charged with: BREAKING AND OR ENTERING, LARCENY AFTER BREAK/ENTER, TRUE BILL OF INDICTMENT, FAILURE TO APPEAR ON FELONY, POSSESS DRUG PARAPHERNALIA, POSSESS METHAMPHETAMINE. Shannon was set a $95,000.00 secure bond and is currently in the custody of the Cherokee County Detention Center and is expected to appear in Cherokee County District Court on May 16th, 2016.

Turner and Coleman were charged with: POSSESS DRUG PARAPHERNALIA, POSSESS METHAMPHETAMINE. Both were released on a $2,000.00 secure bond each and both are scheduled to appear on April 27th, 2016.

Sheriff Palmer stated, “We continue our efforts to keep our community safe. This was some good work by alert deputies of the patrol division during the late hours of the night. Hopefully, this continues to send the message no matter what time of the day or night, we are there and we will enforce the laws.”
