The following press release has been issued by the office of Ashley H. Welch, District Attorney, Thirtieth Prosecutorial District.

At the conclusion of a 4 day trial Hubert Wesley Stroupe, 59, of Robbinsville was convicted yesterday by a jury in Graham County Superior Court of Aggravated Felony Serious Injury by Vehicle resulting from the drunk driving wreck that left his son seriously injured. He was sentenced to 6 years and 3 months to 8 ½ years in prison. The case was investigated by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Raymond Large, III.

“This conviction keeps a dangerous drunk driver off our streets for more than six years and sends a strong message to the community that the District Attorney’s Office is committed to making Western North Carolina the safest place in the Southeast to live, work and raise a family. It is also gratifying that this conviction was achieved by the newest member of our team in the District Attorney’s Office. I knew when I hired Mr. Large just a few months ago that he had the potential to become an outstanding trial lawyer like his father had been for so many years in Sylva where he grew up. Every prosecutor in my office makes a difference every day by the work they do, and it is especially encouraging when I can publicly recognize the younger members of my staff. Good job, Rady. Congratulations and keep up the good work” said District Attorney Ashley Welch.
